Hey, Tommy Campbell here I got one of these recently it’s a Meater plus thermometer I want to share my unboxing with you I wanted to share my first couple of cooks with you and give you a review. Ok thermometers not everyone can eye meat especially with the long cook it can be very deceptive I don’t care what you say or what you think when people insist like oh I can just tell whether when I steak’s perfect medium-rare by touching it. I’ve even seen episodes of Hell’s Kitchen where Ramsay is like sends something out, you know he’s expediting.

And it comes back. Your eye isn’t good enough you need a thermometer you need one. You always need a thermometer. So here’s my unboxing of the Meater thermometer. As you can see the packaging is pretty incredible it is like an apple product how well they put this all together. The wood is really nice the build quality everything looks fantastic so when you’re paying a lot of money for something it does help when it’s been well packaged.

The little things they thought of like the back here that’s magnetic that just pops on, so you don’t have to screw around. The magnet on the back is very powerful so that’ll just snap to a fridge with no problem. Those are very cool things. Setting up and pairing it was really easy it found my phone immediately and then it did a software update and I was good to go. If you have a Kamado Joe the best thing you can get is a Joetisserie, it is so much fun and the results are fantastic. The thing is about the Joetisserie is you can’t put a thermometer in it when you have a spinning piece of meat going around you can’t have these. These are great I’ve had these for years this company’s excellent when a probe dies they’ve sent me a new one without even questioning it.

So it’s a wireless thermometer but it’s not because this sticks in. Fine if you have a, you know a piece of prime rib on the grill or turkey in the oven great, but when you got something spinning – no not gonna happen. What you have to do to check the temperature is then use your instant-read and again these are fantastic the problem is when you open that dome you get a rush of heat you have to stop Joetisserie find the spot to insert the probe and it’s like ah you know you could just see it getting hotter and hotter and it’s very difficult to bring that temp down and because it’s not spinning it’s just gonna get unevenly cooked so that’s not a good way to do it but it was my only way. So for my first cook with the Meater + I got out the Joetisserie.

And I did a chicken just a nice simple four and a half pound roast chicken and I rubbed it in olive oil and then a basic dry rub and this is the rub that Aaron Franklin uses on its ribs and I like to use it on the chicken if you’re not doing it already always use a shaker when applying dry rub it makes life so much simpler. Get it on your Joetisserie, always measure first know where that chickens gonna go is nothing worse than locking in your Joetisserie and then getting it on there and being like oh half my chickens off the coals so always get it.

Centered first. Insert the probe as directed. And what I like to do is when I want to start spinning any extra dry rub I have just give a little shake that birds already turning, it’s dancing for you just get it on there, it’s golden, it’s gorgeous and that was it. I started to cook I was tracking it on the app like I love using the Joetisserie but this was the first time where I just really didn’t have to worry about the mystery of it.

I could see what was going on on my phone and I like deliberately went for a dog walk just so I could be on the house and uh and track it it was really cool. Damn. Like how gorgeous does that look? That is a beautiful chicken worry-free perfectly cooked. Thank You Meater +. Thank you Joetisserie. Thank you, Kamado Joe. Wow. That is a sexy bird For the second cook with my Meater + I went a totally different direction because I got my hands on some locally fished fresh halibut. Wow, halibut is just boss level amazing it doesn’t need anything but a little bit of salt and pepper maybe a squeeze of lemon that’s it it’s so gorgeous. And yeah I inserted my probe set it to fish and I am perfectly cooked halibut for my final cook with Meater + I did a prime rib a three-pound gorgeous piece of meat liberally seasoned and inserted my meter.

Plus and walked away I came back and flipped it when it was at the halfway mark and this took care of everything that was really interesting as well is that when I pulled it off the grill it detected the drop in ambient temperature and switched it over to resting it knows the ambiance sensor for temperature on the meter is very handy and it also gave me a good indication of how accurate the dial is on my Kamado Joe. And it was surprisingly very close so that’s pretty cool but before I was done resting I crank the heat up on my Joe and wanted to do a really cool reverse sear and there’s thermometer handled that heat with ease I was recommended to try the Meater + by a barbecue friend of mine he goes by the name only slagging and here’s a link.

Like on my first go with it I did wonder if they happen like oh I wish it did this and I realized oh yeah it does both those things I just didn’t know how to do it you know you can tap it and I’ll show you the elapsed time if you don’t want a slice of specific meat you can adjust it to a to like one of your random cooks I don’t know if you’re a hunter or you just buy weird shit as you can specifically do whatever you want it doesn’t matter it just has those presets because not everyone is a backyard BBQ pitmaster, okay some people need that little bit of guidance to give them the confidence and that’s good that’s fine.

They made it really easy it calculates the ambient temp and the internal temp to give a pretty darn accurate estimate of when your cook is gonna be done and that’s pretty cool. Another great thing I really like about it is the range okay. So you get quite a bit of range but then the woodblock is the repeater and it boosts it and it’s also connected to the cloud if you have another iPad or a phone that acts as the relay device so now you can do a brisket or pork shoulder whatever you want something low and slow but you can leave the house and you can look at it and the app is nice it’s nice it doesn’t look clunky it’s very slick even the alarm chime is pleasing my only hesitation with the Meater + is that it’s expensive but you do get what you pay for but you get a small device.

I have a kid you know my kid once took my wallet and just put it under a plant pot I canceled all my cards this is a sturdy thing but you still you’re still aware okay this is a couple of hundred bucks and it’s got this line on it and it has to be inserted past that line like there are so many fucking warnings but you have to put it past this line or you will break it and that makes me nervous so I’m overcompensating and putting it past further not everyone can I meet especially with the long cook it can be very deceptive and as we know a wireless thermometer like my Thermopro still has wires so you’re hobbled there honestly these are all useful tools for a cook.

Hey, welcome back being here so I had to get out of the house today that new smoker I got for Christmas like a month ago bro quit work if you watch my review you’ll know why I need something check-check so hey let the Walmart got me a wireless probe y’all stay tuned review coming up right now okay here we go this is the wireless that I had and the reason why I’m not using it because I can’t find fruit for a pet a lot of people ask me about my wildest thermometer you know to tell them how good it was and it was a good one and I’m sure that friends around here.

Somewhere you’re not fine so this is an expert grill wireless grilling thermometer it goes up to 100 feet look at the box their expert Grill came from Walmart it was right at $15 for it all right just like my other one it’s got the base that your probe plugs into your base right here this comes out so you can carry this around with you or you can leave it on top of your grill or smoker all right so this would be pretty easy to set up since.

I’ve already had one pull this off here and hopefully it came with some batteries and there are no batteries both of them takes batteries man I didn’t get any batteries luckily we had batteries but I don’t know if they’re any good I think there are I checked them all from a Harbor Freight battery checker that I had a while back but that’s been a while back so let’s put these batteries in we’ll make some Kodak with a Duracell nope shame in my game all right get up here so now well yeah she’d have a power switch on here and we do keep our own alright that’s top you see the lights flashing on it turn this one on oh right here on the side.

Got own off switch all right now we get to set the smaller batteries upgrading connecting probe we’ve got that probe insertion we’ll do that in a minute we’ve got the power on select meet tug does it really matter yeah well the pork select the taste all right cook alerts when it’s done I need to manually set my target so you go to mode C manually set target press man okay here we go I want this to go up since its pulled pork I want it to go up a 200 degrees and okay desired temperature and on the back, it’s got you Celsius or Fahrenheit switch.

It’s got the backlight counting up and down timer so we press the mode and you got your timer on there when I’m going to use a timer see so right now it says it’s at 93 degrees for some reason oh it’s in my hand just reading my hand it’s hot give me ray I’ll see what it’s looking like already you’re looking but right there boy let’s insert the probe keep it away from the bone there we go see with this you’re good to go leave it in the door all right now we’re up to 126 degrees.

Temperature set at 200 we’re golden what doesn’t leave that right there so here we got the user’s manual tissue the features on it’s got Wireless minor backlit LED screen transmitter bays stainless-steel meat probe heat-resistant wire probe holder pocket clip audible alarm and cooking timer so you see here’s where you plug in your probe on the side of your base here’s your LED indicator letting you know that it’s uh it’s working I showed you how to insert your batteries shows you operating instructions how to connect the probe.

I’d insert the probe powering their home don’t forget you will need four triple-a batteries with this all right and you’ll select your meat type which I don’t really know why that matters because if you’re cooking you want to know the temperature unless you don’t know what the temperature is and you select like this it says well or medium-well and you go through and you check all that off using your buttons here but it does have Dennis level of rare medium medium-well and well done and see figure five and target temperature.

Appears on the LCD screen before cooking the cooking alerts will sound when the meat has reached its target temperature burger turkey chicken fish will only have a dumbest level of well so we’re not using that we’re using the actual temperature because I know what I want mine to be at sliced pork is around 170 and pulled pork is upwards of 190 to 205 alright and you’ll go through and you’ll set all that it’s got care and maintenance troubleshooting happens if a problem arises see you got a warning here the meat probe is designed to measure.

Internal meat temperatures and as operating temperature range between 50 degrees blows Celsius and 300 green degrees Celsius which is minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit and 572 degrees Fahrenheit exposing the probe to temperatures above 572 could cause the temperature to the temperature sensor do not mix old and new batteries do not mix alkaline standard carbon-zinc or rechargeable nickel palladium batteries I probably did that I don’t know do not dispose of the batteries in the fire okay it’s got warnings about the batteries so expert grill there you go we’ll check it when it’s done we’re at 126 degrees still come back.

When it’s done I’ll show you what a good looking but looks like all right yeah I’ll just keep you up to speed here we’re at 187 that’s been several hours oh let me see 4:30 I got this round get back to the house around 1:00 o’clock so oh you’ve been too bad I’m not gonna open up the door I don’t want the heat to get out so we’re at 187 that’s good for sliced pork but I wanted to get up a little higher for pulled pork yeah you don’t have one you need to get you one 194 degrees.

It’s 5 o’clock won’t be long now 6 more degrees I can actually pull it off right now I used to do it at 190 pull the pork but I found that when you go up a little closer to 200 205 it actually pulls a little better I like this wireless thermometer I wish that the smoker’s thermometer would work but besides we’re at 198 can you hear it I should add some water to it but I’m not messing with it if I open this up no I don’t want the heat to get out but 198 I couldn’t go ahead and pull it now but I want you guys this watching this review to actually see and hear what it sounds like when you get to 200 or your target temperature well-done medium-well whatever you set your probe at your thermometer at I to want you to hear what it sounds like well it gets us the waiting game.

If you’ve never had one of these you’re gonna love this I’m so I swear to you this works on the smoker on the grill in the oven where you need to check the temperature internally and you don’t want to open the oven up or whatever and check the temperature this is awesome this is one of the best things ever if you can hear that I don’t know if you can or not uh good editing video but that’s all juices that fell into the water pan and they’re boiling right now or whatever I’ve only got it I’ve got to set it to 50 and usually I set my smoker at 225 but I’ve been talking just some guys that do this for a living and they smoke it who’s 70 and my smoker will go up to 250.

So I’m gonna try this so the first time I’ve tried it at 250 my channel is all about saving time and money with my how to’s and reviews there’s nothing like going out and buying something and not knowing how it works or getting it and it’s a piece of junk so this is why I reviewed like I do is to help people find the product that when you take it home take it out of the box it works for you right off the bat with no issues if there are any issues I’m gonna let you know where it goes that’s what it sounds like when you’re done jumped up from $1.99 to 201 let’s get this thing out of smoker alright what I’m going to do next is I’m gonna go ahead and turn this.

Off then we turn the unit off over here just get the probe in it alright oh this thing smells so so good I hate to do it but I’ve got to sample this look at this thing falling apart oh my gosh mmm look at that oh my goodness we need to wrap this up we’ll let it sit there a good 30 minutes is is is good let’s see here can’t lose the bar get out of the bar don’t throw that in there I don’t know it’s gonna see that, yeah you see it look at that thing.
