Today I’m going to be reviewing the eBay 1 gallon water distiller I’m also gonna distill a variety of water sources tap water bucket water filter and filtered water purchased from a water store you’ll be surprised by what is left in the pot after the distillation or at least I was surprised so let’s find out how it works and how good it is let’s get started first let’s take a look at the unit itself I bought it on eBay a while back for around $60 before I purchased this I was thinking of making one myself out of a pressure cooker but the cost of the pressure cooker alone is already more than the eBay water distiller system not to mention you have to get other materials in the time.

You invest in it to make it so making the water distiller myself does not make economical sense at this point now let’s take a look at the pressure cooker it is advertised to have all stainless steel internal so let’s take a look here the pot is stainless steel the camp is stainless steel the core is also stainless steel and even the spout it’s also stainless steel so everything that’s in contact with water is stainless steel except this silicone gasket here on the cap and this gasket does a very good job at sealing the unit and keep the water vapor inside it and to seal the unit all you have to do is to put the top down that’s it it’s held together only by gravity so the way.

It works is it will boil the water and the vapor will rise and we get into the coil on the top of the unit the coil also has hit sinks that help cool down the water the fan blows air upward and it draws air from the vent on the side through the coil and out at the top by the time the water vapor gets to the top of the coil it will cool down and condense back into a liquid and drip down this back down here the pot has a marking that says full when water is filled up to this line it is exactly in one gallon and you don’t want to feel it more than this line because when heated up water will expand and when it more is will produce bubble and therefore occupy.

In my first batch I use tap water I feel the water up to the full level and let run all by itself it takes about four hours to completely distill one gallon and it runs extremely efficient I’m able to get almost one gallon at least a water out of one gallon of tap water that’s almost 100 percent recovery and that’s very impressive the unit has a heat sensor and when it runs out of water inside the pot the temperature inside will rise and the heat sensor will turn off the unit automatically you don’t have to sit around wait and watch unto the end to turn off the unit it does everything automatically and will turn off all by itself, however, it will let the puddle.

Run dry and the recipe will be hard to clean so what I do is I just distill are just a little bit less than a gallon so that I’d still have some water left in the pot that way the remaining water will still dissolve the residue and make my cleaning job a little bit easier for my first batch using tap water I intentionally let that unit run all the way to the end and Lily turn itself off automatically I just want to make sure it works properly because it’s my first time using it and I’m also curious to see what has been locking inside my tap water and here’s the residue from the tap water it doesn’t look good I can’t imagine drinking a liquid that contains all.

This now it’s time to clean it up the residue on the bottom of the pot is hard as a rock I thought it will be hard to clean but with the citric acid, it would just dissolve the solid right away, and surprisingly it was pretty easy to clean even though the residue was stuck really hard to the pot for the second batch I use filtered water which is filtered by a carbon filter under the sink and this time I leave a little bit of water left in the pot with the residue.

To make my cleaning job a little bit easier the residue is a bit less than tap water partly because it has already been told a carbon filter for my thought match and used the water that has been told tune filtering steps the water first goes through my kitchen sink filter and then it’s filtered one more time by my monkey water filter.

System the end result is a residue that is even a little bit cleaner than a previous batch with just one filter however both filtering systems did not remove all the salt in the water so there’s still a lot of salt and residue left for my final test and use water purchased from a water store and the end result is very surprising this is what is left after the distillation process the residue is just peer and clear water there is absolutely no salt in the residue there are no salts sticking on the bottom of the pot and unlike the previous distillation.

Trials this time there is no white powder sticking on the side of the pot either it’s all just clear water so this is like distilling distilled water I did a little research and found out the water I bought from that particular store was through a reverse osmosis system which would produce the purest drinking water possible besides distillation that is doing the four trials I also used a TDS meter to measure and compare the quality of the distilled water TDS stands for total dissolved solids and it measured the charged ions in water as an impurity in other stones in parts per million the original tap water was about 300 parts per million the distilled water after.

The distillation process was almost zero partner million especially the water and distilled that was originally from the water store it had one part per million there are a couple of things I don’t like about this distiller first the fans run really loud the ANS being blown upward by the fan is quite warm about 42 degrees Celsius so you don’t want to put this under the kitchen cabinet as it will get hot the upside is that because it blows strong hot air and you can just put it in your room and make it a space heater and warm up in your room that’s if you can put up with a man of crazy nor is this thing max another downside is it can only distill.

One gallon at a time and finally of course being an electric distiller it will not run when you have a power outage which is usually when you need it the most but this shouldn’t be a problem if you have an off-grid backup solar power system the power it uses is about 700 watt from the very beginning all the way up to the end and it takes about four hours to finish so in total it uses about three kilowatts of power to save time to save on energy bill I try to preheat the water before I put it in the pot and essentially about half an hour runtime and.

About a quarter of kilowatt-hour of energy so this way you can complete the distillation in about three and a half hour instead up for hours so although this is an excellent water distiller the distilled water tastes really good even better than the reverse osmosis water from the water store next video I’ll do a teardown of this distiller and I’ll show you what’s inside and how it works and that’s all for now I’ll see you later.

Hello my name is Frank Mendez thank you very much for tuning in to us we’ve got something really exciting for you it’s called a multi-purpose emergency water distiller and what’s really beautiful about this tiller is it can be used off-grid and on-grid in both situations it also it is a disorder that you can use to for multiple reasons and right now we’re going to talk about the distillation aspect of this distiller the distiller is against stainless steel made in the USA which should be really important in anything that you purchase made in the USA basically will guarantee you high-quality stainless steel and that it’ll the that it will last a lifetime and that someone in the United States.

We Will probably have a job so let’s go through the system here’s from a previous video you can see that this is the boiling pot this is a condensing pot that we have for this distillation system we’re going to start off from the previous video as you saw this is a water evacuation a faucet which we’re going to put on and the reason we’re going to put this on as I put it on is that at some point down the line you’re going to want to remove some of that water that’s in this boiling chamber because you may be midstream and you may want to remove it.

So we’re going to put this particular component on with this slip this on-off and we put this on step over here if you notice there’s a gasket on the outside of this and a gasket on the inside a lot of times people kind of overlook this simple step but it’s really easy to not do that so I’m going to point these two things out to you one gasket is on the inside one gasket on the inside and the other one is on the outside we’re going to thread this through we’re going to put on the gasket on the inside we’re going to cut we’re going to tighten this up.

Into as well on the inside, by the way, this particular component is stainless steel you’ll need to take this particular portion on off if you want to and you’ll see that that this will come off we have that off here so that stainless steel as well that’s also on the outside of this particular one along with the gasket we’re going to put this inside now and then we’re going to tighten it up with a stainless steel bolt now as we tighten that this up is going.

To be a point where you can no longer tighten the threads with your hands so what you’re going to do by the way when you take a look at this there is you’ll see this particular nut take a look at it because if it’s not going on right away just flip it over to the other side okay so that will save you some time and I’m going to flip mine over to the other side because it was kind of fighting me when I was putting it on now we’re just going to tighten it up really quickly with our hands and all you really do need to do is really hand tighten it I’m going to move it to this position.

Here because in the end after I tighten it as tight as I can possibly tight tighten it with my fingers and that’s just about there’s going to be some there you go I’ve got a clamp now with my fingers now I’m going to turn this valve.

Up here nice and tight as I’m clamping on the other side and it’s ready to go you might want to put some water in there to make sure they say you tighten it on enough but as you can see you really want to hand tighten this particular part of it now the next thing you’re going to really pull out when you have the distillery’s you’re going to see this is your float mechanism for your distiller the float mechanism you’re going to set right at the bottom of your distiller right in the middle of it and after you do that you’re going to use this particular.

For the water distiller as you can see right here and we’re going to set that right up over the top of this I want you to notice that this this this one has gaskets on the inside of it to help to keep out of the steam in there and then it also has latches it’s also flap it also has latches so you can secure it and steam will not escape I’ll put all three of them on here this is unique in the fact that it also has latches or you’re just gonna set that aside like this we’re going to set this another legend you might notice we’re going to set that aside because we’re not going to use that at this moment we’ll set that over here now what are we going to do well.

We’re going to set up the float mechanism because one of the other unique features of this one is that you really only have to pour water into the top of the container you don’t have to disassemble it to put water in the bottom and also take off the top to put water in the top and many other distillers that you see out there you do have to take this on-off because this is empty so you need to refill that and on the top aspect of it you may have to dump the water or it may be very very hot and it’s very very hot then it’s not going to cool the condensed steam that’s going to come up through your distiller so that’s really really important so now you don’t have to disassemble this to keep your production going you don’t have to disassemble this or dump.

Whatever in this particular chamber to keep your production going because the water through this float mechanism will go to the bottom of this and when it’s filled it’ll stop going and your water will start distilling now this is what we need to do now to make this float mechanism really work effectively before we go any further let’s put the faucet on the top condensing chamber now this is where the cold water will come that.

You’ll pour your cold water into the steam will rise on up hit it and then condense into your distiller tray water distiller tray so let’s do that now basically it’s exactly the same system that we have that we did for the bottom boiling but so you’re going to have two faucets and I’ll tell you that later date white why you have two faucets at this point in time let’s just put it on so we’re going to do the same thing unscrew this and we’re going to put the stainless steel component on the outside of it we’ll do it to this and.

We didn’t show you how to do this on the other component of it but we’ll do it on this one here so we’re going to place this on the exterior here the collar if you notice the bevel part is pointing out here’s your gasket that we’re going to put on to the exterior here is the nut and gasket that we’re going to be putting on to the interior of this so same exact procedure as we use before and we’re going to put it on here look we’ll stick that in and when you have it as tight as you can tighten it and you give it.

I’m going to give it a few more twists with your hand and clamp it clamp the bolt on the inside of your the nut on the inside with your fingers and turn your faucet around such as like this nice and tight okay and once again you might want to put some water in there to see to make sure that that it does not leak or you don’t have to put your hands in there later but if you do it’s not a problem just tighten it just a little bit more okay now that we’ve tightened this on up our next step is to do this we’re going to get our distillation chamber which looks.

Like this and we’re going to add our tube to it here’s your tube that you’re going to have we’re going to just push that in sometimes you may have to warm it up in warm water to put it on there so it expands and you just push it through nice and hard okay now your distillation chamber will go like this will set right up over your football so we’re going to set it up like this let’s enter that at sin of that right here now this will be this particular side will be wherever you have the ball or the reserve or your product water will be going into.

So this is where it will go to and this is a way it will be set up what we’re going to do next now is set up your condensing chamber once again water will be heated down through here will come up through the bottom of this steam will come up through here we’ll hit the bottom of your condensing chamber condense into this tray the condensed distilled water then comes out through the tube into another bottle or container that you’re going to use to drink out over to care your distilled water now we’re going to set up as a condensing.

Chamber up on top of that in time as you use it you’ll clean up the bottom of this to make sure that it’s as clean as possible so always clean the bottom of your volume because you’ll end up setting it aside there might be some dirt there and we don’t want that the moisture which condenses to come back into your distillation chamber and then inevitably into your water so just a note for you to make with that we’re going to set this up now we’ll set this up the side like this the next thing we’re going to do is put the float guide stem into the bottom of your condensing pot and basically you’re going to see this you’re going to have yourself.

Your gasket which you’re going to put right on the system you’re not going to insert this we’re going to have another gasket it’s going to be on the inside of the pot or maybe this we’ll put that in there we’re going to have two washers and both these two washers were going to insert on the inside so let’s do that there you go and we’re going to tighten that one up now you just have to be able to hand tighten it in most cases just pull it through and just tighten that on uptake special care and take a look at this particular part of it again.

It’s probably them but just the way you put in your washers and everything else is really important so take a look at it not a Titan see you’d really don’t need a tool if you’re having to touch tighten it a lot and take a look at this portion of this video again it’s nice and tight on the inside as you can see okay now we’re just going to simply.

Lift this on up and guide it we’re going to use the guidelines set that in there set it up make sure it’s squared away on the top let’s put all our valves on up here let’s close these on this situation that’s closed let’s close the top valve here too as well and we’re set to go the beauty of this knot is all we need is water so you can get water from whatever spot that you have available let’s just say you’re on the wilderness there’s a stream there.

Or something else that has water in it maybe it’s even full of twigs or something like that in which case you just might want to put a little soccer t-shirt up here pour it right through the system what’s interesting is you say well there’s no water down here well no there’s no water down there but because the float is down the water that you put in up here is going to come down in here and be heated right on up you will continue to fill.

This right back up just below the top of it and leave the top on open evaporation place takes place water will be over here into the canoe the container that you want it to drip into for you to drink and you can keep it and as you walk by you can see you can make a different sized bottle that you want or four or five or even another pot if you have another pot you could possibly do that place another pot here just to hold yours.

Water so you can vary this on enter your thumb out and keep it going now let’s just say that ok you’ve got water down here and it’s pretty hot and excuse me that this has gone down and the water down here seems to be pretty hot for some reason because the fire has been on for a long time then you instead of opening up the system and taking everything apart that’s what this is for so you just open this up to empty it on out a bit and then refresh it with cold with hot water up here excuse me with the water that.

You have available and start the cycle all over again the beauty of it is that you don’t have to disassemble it and that’s what you’re going to find to be really beneficial for you and give you higher water production you should easily get 16 to 18 gallons on this per day and it will actually take less effort on your part because you’re not having to dis disassembled and several things back together again this is a great distiller.

Because it’s off-grid or on-grid in other words you could put this on the stove on an on a grill on an outside fire you can use it for camping you can actually so you can take it on out with you and set it on a nice great to do that so now you have a system that you can actually use in your home best preferred outside for camping let’s just say you’re a missionary you might want to use it for that your camping you’d want to use it for that.
