Features of the Best Paint Sprayer For Home Use in 2021
Types of Paint Sprayer For Home Use:
Airless Paint Sprayers:
These paint sprayers are motorized, and power is right–in the world of paint spraying. The paint is released at very high pressure from airless forms, resulting in a dense coat.
When the paint is sprayed from these machines, it comes out in a fan of even particles, providing a good even coat on the floor. The good thing about it is you need fewer coats to give a finishing touch to the walls of your house. So the workload will definitely be less.
The flow, on the other hand, is not naturally adjustable, so you either get a thick coat or none at all. Your airless paint sprayer for interior walls can still be fitted with a different tip, which is your next best choice. Airless paint sprayers can give much thicker-quality paint than certain other forms of sprayers.
Pneumatic/Compressed Air Paint Sprayers:
The most popular form of paint sprayer is this one. The paint stream is propelled by compressed air in pneumatic types. This one, like the airless version, produces a fairly smooth, even coat. They’re ideal for giving a smooth finish to furniture and other big household objects. Smoother than a wall or roof, for example.
Unlike airless sprayers, they also have natural adjustability. This makes them suitable, which is always an advantage. Because of their versatility, learning to use them is a bit challenging, but this can be neglected by some practice. Pneumatic paint sprayers, unfortunately, are also a bit of a mess. They produce more overspray than any other sprayer, and they use the most paint of any kind!
High-Volume Low-Pressure Sprayers:
This is commonly referred to as “HVLP,” and it is a kind of alternative to compressed-air sprayers, which causes a lot of oversprays. While HVLP sprayers are more costly, they eliminate the problem of overspray. They release paint particles over a wide area of air in a slow and precise manner.
Since these items are so precise, expect a smooth, fine coat with plenty of detail. HVLP paint sprayers are ideal for projects with a higher level of complexity. You will be appreciated for the remarkable talent of nailing the finer points. They are also more costly than pneumatic models, but they use less paint. You’ll break even and even save money if you paint frequently (like, very frequently).
You may be thinking about the drawbacks. HVLP paint sprayers, on the other hand, are very slow. They are not suitable for large-scale projects such as house exteriors or long corridors.
helps, on the other hand, have adjustable settings, making them more flexible and better suited to detail.
Paint sprayer filters are not always included in the package. Purchase a filter if you’re looking for a smooth finished look on your project. They have the power to prevent paint splatter. Furthermore, they ensure that your tips do not clog. Because of the clogged tips, paint splatters, resulting in a sloppy finish.
The type of compounds you choose to use is an important factor that will affect the type of paint sprayer you choose. This is due to the fact that not every sprayer is capable of working with all of the compounds. For example, whether you choose to use thin latex paints or regular residential paints, an airless sprayer will work.
A compressed air paint sprayer may be needed for some wood stains, shellacs, and other specialty compounds. The explanation for this is that such models are typically made of more durable materials and can withstand the high pressures needed to spray such compounds.
Many airless paint sprayers allow you to change the spray direction. You can change the direction in vertical, horizontal, and circular forms, you can change the direction. Furthermore, some models allow you to adjust the spray fan’s size. You may also adjust the spray nozzles to get various effects.
Paint sprayers are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some are small and simple to run. Others you’ll have to lug around with you. The size of a paint sprayer has a significant effect on how much you use it and how long you use it.
If the device has wheels and a handle, transporting it to and from different locations would be much easier. Since the spray gun will be attached to the floor-based equipment while you operate, wheel-and-handle units will be floor-based.
Because of their weight, some of the best automatic paint sprayers must be wheeled. Some of these items can weigh as much as 30 pounds! Others are very small, weighing just 5 pounds. Those can be compared to cordless drills or other electrical equipment.
Ease of use:
The ease of use can have a huge impact on your task’s effectiveness, speed, and protection. When it comes to painting sprayers, this means you can make sure they suit your hand comfortably. Furthermore, the unit’s weight must be taken into consideration. Make sure you don’t buy a big easy paint sprayer that would be difficult to manage and run.
A container holds the paint in the majority of compressed air sprayers and a few airless sprayers. It is attached to the gun, which can be very heavy and difficult to operate. Consider models that store the paint separately in a compartment if you’re worried about weight affecting your accuracy.
Cleaning and maintenance:
In general, easy-to-clean and maintain tools can last for many years and allow you to complete the job more efficiently. This means you’ll need to find a sprayer that’s simple to clean. It is commonly found that painting tools are among the most difficult to clean.
This is due to the fact that they come into direct contact with a variety of compounds that can alter the color or quickly solidify. As a result, you must first consider the frequency of usage and the cleaning facilities available.
Paint sprayers usually cost between $225 and $400. Consider renting if you just have a one-day job. A high-capacity best professional paint sprayer can be rented for $70-$100 per day. You also won’t have to think about where you’ll put it. But if you paint frequently and you always prefer to do it on your own then buy a good quality paint sprayer that will last longer and you won’t have to spend a lot on rent.

How to Painting Walls with a Paint Sprayer?
Hey friends it’s a painting day around here and I am excited to show you how I paint a wall or this room using a paint sprayer I’ve got tons of questions about this on my Instagram story is over the last couple of months as I’ve been painting every room in our rental house and I wanted to answer some of those questions today and just give you a full overview of what it looks like for me to paint a room using the paint sprayer so let’s get started when we moved into this rental a couple of months ago we knew that one of the first things that had to happen to make it feel fresh.
And clean and more like home for us was to paint all of the walls you can see this yellow that we’ve got going and it’s everywhere my very favorite white is extra white by Sherwin Williams I used it in my last house I’m using it again here and I’ve been spraying it all with a paint sprayer I’ve been using the home right finish max super which is a brand new paint sprayer from home right I had their finished max before and I loved it for smaller projects but to paint the whole house it’s been really nice to use the finish max super.
Because with the finish max super there’s a wide nozzle tip that you can use and not have to thin the paint at all so I’m taking the paint directly from the paint can straight into the sprayer putting it on the walls and I’m just knocking this house out and it’s feeling so good I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how to use the paint sprayer or what it’s like if there are a lot overspray and the A to Z questions about the sprayer and so I thought that since I was gonna be painting this room today I’m painting the master bedroom that I would just give you sort of an inside scoop of what it looks like for me to paint a bedroom using the paint sprayer.
I thought I’d quickly go through all the different things that I have to get ready to paint a room I have my hat because I get to paint my hair if I don’t a painting t-shirt I’ve got my painting pants on my painting shoes and then I have my actual tools and things that I so I’ve got paint this is emerald paint by Sherwin Williams is my very favorite paint it’s super durable one coat is a primer and paint all in one and it’s washable I like using the flat.
Because I don’t have I don’t like the sheen and with the flat, I still get the durability and washability in this level of pain it’s a super nice paint and I use it all the time so that’s my paint I’m using extra white by Sharon Williams which is their base white and that’s my favorite perfect white I use a little paintbrush to go around the edges and to start with prep before I start spraying all the corners things that I don’t want to have to get the overspray very nearby like moldings and things like that I’m gonna go around the edges with the paintbrush and tape is what I’m going to use I’m not gonna paint the ceiling in this room and some of the other rooms in the house I have and then I just sprayed right up into the ceiling but in this room.
I’m not going to and so I’m going to tape off the ceiling then paintbrush around the edge and then I will avoid getting paint on the ceiling then I’ve got my comb right finished Mac super you can tell that it’s used well-loved around here this is one of the pieces that goes in it to suck up the paint this is the bottom that I hook on that I put the paint into I’ll show you how I do that the nozzle is underneath here this is a change to the direction and then I always use it with an extension cord because the quartz kind of short clubs this is new for me.
I painted everywhere we’ve lived for you know the last ten years and I always I did never use gloves before and it makes such a difference to just at least have my hands clean when I’m done there might be paint everywhere else but at least I can keep my hands clean I actually use a couple of pairs of gloves because every time I take them off then I use a new pair and let me show you I have drop cloth down over I just moved all the furniture to the middle of the room and so everything is covered with this drapey just plastic drop slot that’s from Home Depot and then on the floor.
On the floors I have again from Home Depot just this painters drop cloth this one is a hallway version which is really nice because I just use it around the edges I also have a stool on hand for reaching those high places up in the corners of the room they have the room all taped off the way that I like it then I’m gonna start using this small paintbrush and I just carry around the lid to just get a little bit of paint on it to be able to do all of the edges this is when I put on my gloves so that I am ready to paint and not get paint all over my hands as I get going and I just used a little paintbrush so you can see here and I’m going to just paint all the edges you if I wasn’t painting white.
I probably would have taped along with this doorway because I wouldn’t want to get the white on you know the paint’s mixed but because I have white on the trim I can just paint right along there and feel pretty confident about it not messing everything up I want to show you how I like to get a little bit of extra pan and load the brush up with paint and then put it on the lid that way I can carry the lid around and have painted here on the lid and not have to haul the whole gallon of paint everywhere I go around the room to do the trim it always feels really good to get.
All those edges finished because then all you have to do is spray in the middle it kind of reminds me of being a little kid and coloring in the coloring pictures I always would trace the outline very carefully you know in thick crayon and then I could kind of go crazy in the middle that’s what it feels like when I’m painting a room I got all of the edges neatly painted so that I give myself space to spray next to but not on to the ceiling the door frames the windows all of those things and then I can just bust out the sprayer and get the thing done so let me show you how I put this breaker together.
And then I’m gonna start spraying okay to get started with the finish Matt super sprayer you need to decide what type of paint you’re using so like I said I love this sprayer particularly because I don’t have to thin the paint when I’m using the red nozzle so when you get it out of the box it’ll explain all of this to you but you just choose the nozzle that you’re gonna put on and it goes right there and then you fit all these other pieces together screw them.
On when you have this knob pointing this way horizontally that means you’re spraying horizontally and when you turn it vertical that means you’re gonna spray it vertically and it doesn’t it didn’t make sense to me at first but basically when I’m spraying vertical I want a big horizontal line to go and that’s what’s happening here and when I have a horizontal and I’m spraying this way I get a nice vertical line so it’ll make sense as we go on okay.
So I’ve got this all together I poured my paint directly from my paint can into this paint container so this is my Sherwin Williams emerald paint in flat extra white my favorite paint it goes right here and then this is like the little straw that sucks up that paint from there and it just fits right in here so all the pieces really go together very simply and intuitively you just stick it all together this gets a little heavy at the beginning so it’s an arm workout to use your sprayer you fit it on screw this on and then once I plug it in I’m good to go I mean simple as that this right here is the trigger I’m gonna use that as I’m spraying you can also adjust how much paint.
Comes out right here with this little rolling nozzle and then you could pull the trigger and you’re ready to go again I’m gonna put on my gloves to get started spraying and I’m gonna start in the far the farthest corner of the room just like you would when you’re sleeping or mopping just so that you can kind of work your way and then exit let everything dry and air out I have the windows open in here there’s good ventilation the Emerald is lower.
V OC paints as well so I’m not too worried about the fumes but I do wear this bandana just to keep painting as much as possible out of my nostrils and my nose hairs and on my face and my hair and all this thing is just kind of cover-up because you do get that kind of fine paint dust happening let’s get started okay for demonstration purposes I want to just start on this wall right here I’m actually gonna go in the corner but this is where I’ve got everything set up so simple as I’ve got this on horizontal I already did a little test spray see though it’s going this way that means that I’m going to get a nice vertical line of paint and you just from.
I don’t know between one and three feet away probably I use big strokes going from right to left left to right or if I’m going vertical big strokes up and down and you don’t want to do a lot of like jostling the paint’s gonna spray more evenly if you just keep it flat and go kind of slow and nice the further away you get of course the more distributed the pain is going to be the closer you get the more of like a specific line so depending on what you’re painting and how you want it to go and you may adjust your own sort of distance.
From the wall, I think I tend to stay about twelve to fifteen inches from the wall naturally because I like to see just where the paint is going and don’t feel like I have a ton of overspray and that’s the best way for me to do that I also like to paint in lines and I’ll do one line and then come back and overlap by a couple of inches and then do the next line I feel like I get really great coverage on the whole wall only having to do one named coat and then I go back and kind of touch up after it’s been a really great way to just quickly and easily knock out painting this house so I’ll just do a few lines and let you kind of get a feel for it you can see where my overlap.
Is so I can come back through and spray those lines where it’s a little thinner in the middle as it dries it evens out a little bit and then if I need to come back through and kind of touch up and that’s what I do but basically I get a whole coat on the wall like that and then I come back through later as it dries like I said the wet pane and dry paint kind of even out um when you’re just starting this is really heavy so sometimes I use my other hand to support just because this arm is only so strong and then as less and less paint getting that you’ll notice that it gets lighter and when it starts to sputter you know that you’re getting low on pain and that’s.
When it that’s been my indication to add paint when it starts to sputter out onto the wall um every once in a while you may get a little bit of dry paint right here on the novel so you just go ahead I use a paper towel and just kind of rub that out and then you just go for it so I’m doing this gonna spend the next half hour probably painting as much as I can in this room and I’ll check back in and let you see how it’s light okay it’s been about thirty minutes I’ve gone through to paint canisters on the sprayer and I finished about half the room so I’ll try to back up and give you a good idea one of the things I love about spraying like I said once you get those edges.
Filled in I feel like you can just paint and everything is like contained right there I feel like it’s a lot cleaner than rolling and brushing for some reason it’s just felt really easy to me so I love how quick it is and within you know another hour I’ll have the whole room finished and it will start drying and I’ll be able to start cleaning up so this is the wall that I haven’t done yet one interesting thing about this rental is that none of the hardware has been taken off during painting before so you can see that this light switch is just painted in place the same thing down here with this switch normally you would take these faceplates off to do your painting but since this is the state of the rental.
I’m in I’m just leaving them there and following suit and spring right over them so this wall you can see has not been painted yet and half of this wall has not but once we get over there let’s see if I can get my lighting to adjust you can see about right here is where it switches and this it looks so stripy because of the different wetness and dry of the paints but when that dries it’s all going to be beautifully white and then I finished all the way over.
Here and halfway on this wall so that’s a pretty drastic contrast you can see this white when it dries up is gonna be all super nice and then this is the color that we’ve been dealing with so obviously it’s a lot lighter brighter and nicer to have the white on the walls in this little tiny space I’ve gone through about half of my gallon of paint I’ll finish up the other gallon maybe a little more to finish off it off and touch up in this room I’ve had to change the paint canister twice on half the room so I’m guessing probably another two times to finish it up and the one thing that I have to do now that I’ve done this half where I have the drop cloth on the floor is shuffled all the drop cloth over to this other half of the room so that I don’t get paint on the floor.
While I finish up it’s been about an hour maybe an hour and a half since I started putting this room together to paint and I just finished painting all of the walls are still a little bit wet and so I can I’m gonna wait until it all dries for an hour or two and see if there are spots that I need to touch up but otherwise I know with all the other rooms that I’ve done if I made sure I got pretty good coverage with the sprayer as I was going then I didn’t really have to do much after so just as the paint dries you can see kind of the striations behind me all of that fades away as the paint gets even and dry altogether and the different length thicknesses of paint get dry.
And then it just is this beautiful white let me back up and give you a little look around the room you can see the difference from the yellow of the ceiling to the white of the walls and how much brighter and crisper it’s gonna feel in here once all of this paint dries and I don’t have that kind of murky yellow color anymore but I have the nice white on the walls I’m gonna go ahead and pull this tape down in just a second and I’ll have a nice even line where the ceiling is ideally in a house I feel like the ceiling should always be white or at least lighter.
Then the wall color unless you’re trying to do like a statement ceiling and do it really dark but it just isn’t worth the effort for me in this particular room to do the ceiling I did paint the ceiling in the bathroom and I painted the ceiling in the kitchen where the spaces were a little smaller and there wasn’t quite as much natural light I felt like it really opened it up but in this room, it would have been a huge hassle to do the whole ceiling and so I feel like once the walls are done it with that nice line it’s still gonna look great the last thing.
I have to do before I’m officially done with painting today is clean out my sprayer I do that in the kitchen sink with soap and water and just rinse everything really really well I take all the pieces apart take the little nozzle off there’s a little brush that comes with the sprayer and so you can scrape all the paint all the spots that you need to and just clean it really thoroughly in between each use so that it works great the next time that you need it and it doesn’t have a bunch of dried paint stuck up in there you can see as things dry out that everything starts to even out and look really nice I started putting things up on the walls and I’m putting the bed top back together and just kind of making it feel like a room again and it’s so nice to have these fresh.
Clean white walls rather than that ugly yellow paint while I’m thinking about it before I finish I want to answer a couple of quick questions that I get over and over about the sprayer one is there a lot of over spring I think that there are a few inches of overspray on either side where you get a little bit of speckle um and then there’s that paint dust that I talked about that goes kind of throughout the room so that’s why I cover everything with plastic and I paint the edges that I don’t worry too much about things you know a foot or two away getting paint on them that’s not gonna happen unless you’re a little bit reckless so not a ton of overspray I’ve actually felt like it was really manageable number two does the paint sprayer provide good coverage I think that this has a lot more to do with the paint that you’re using than the sprayer can provide as much coverage as you need you can do and with one coat I feel like it gets a pretty good dusting.
And then as you go over it and kind of cover up the patches or those lines kind of in-between then you’re all set but if you’re using a cheap paint the paint itself might not cover very well so it might require more coats when you’re using a nicer paint that’s like a paint primer in one then you’ll find that you have better results with better coverage and as it dries it all kind of evens out really beautifully like this emerald paint from Sherwin Williams does versus needing to go back and do several other coats to make it look nice another question I get do you think it’s easier to spray than to roll and you know kind of depends on you and your style of painting and I guess maybe your level of how often you do it I I’ve been pretty good with a roller.
And I just feel like the sprayer is faster and cleaner and a little more efficient I have more things to deal with when I have the roller right the paint tray of the paint can I have the roller itself I have you know I still have to tape all the edges and still have to brush all the edges and so when I’m using the sprayer I feel like I do all the same prep but then the actual painting of the walls is a lot easier and faster for me than if I was using a roller there are going to be times when a roller will probably be better and but I think that if you haven’t used.
A sprayer at something you’re interested in you should definitely grab one and give it a go it’s not a huge investment I think the home right finish max super is $99 on Amazon I’ll put a link in the description box straight to the one that I use and it’s not a huge huge investment when you consider you could spend that same amount on you know a couple of rollers and several foam things and you’re gonna be able to use the sprayer over and over again so if it’s something that you’re interested in your you’re gonna do a lot of painting in your future.
Or your painting things with lots of nooks and crannies and like wicker furniture or you’re doing doors or cabinets you’re definitely gonna want to spray her for those types of things and this one is a great way to go I think that’s it, for now, this has been a long video to share all the ins and outs of painting this bedroom with me I’m gonna give you a final look around I want to remind you to subscribe to my channel to live free Miranda where I share tips and tutorials for creative adventurous life and motherhood I hope you’ll come back over and over again to dive into projects with me and see how things work.
How do the majority of paint sprayers get their power supply?
Most paint sprayers can be powered two ways: by an electric supply or by using batteries for cordless operation. You can choose a corded paint sprayer for ceilings models if you have access to an electric supply. On the other hand, If you want to use it regularly for outdoor applications, a cordless paint sprayer will be the better option. You will get rid of the cable mess with the cordless paint sprayer.

Hey everyone this is Lindy from love create celebrate welcome back to our channel where we share home renovation and DIY videos if you haven’t subscribed to our channel please hit that subscribe button so you can be notified of future videos today we are really excited to be chatting about our new paint sprayer and how we used it in our most recent renovation throughout our time renovating different spaces we have painted a lot of walls and I can tell you we were very impressed with this paint sprayer I’ll tell you how much time it’s saved and exactly why we loved it we will be sharing everything you need to know about the Wagner Fleck Co of 5000.
Which was gifted to us by Wagner and they have sponsored this video this pates burger comes with its own power box which makes it really easy and convenient to move the paper around to different locations which were great for this project since it was away from our home when you open up your carrying case you’ll find everything you need right inside including the turbine that actually pushes the air through the hose and pushes your paint out you can also easily store the detail finish nozzle which is for smaller projects and the eye spray nozzle for larger projects in this carrying case to assemble your paint sprayer first remove the hose.
With the attached handle and attach the hose to the air hose port in the power box at this point you can also remove the nozzle you’ll be using and you can unwrap the power cord and remove that as well now you can close the box up since everything you need for your paint spraying project is already out after you’ve attached the hose you can now attach the handle to the nozzle and you’re ready to go at this point you’ll want to reference the Manuel for the power.
And material settings guide but will also quickly go through all of the different settings and options too there are a lot of different ways to customize the spray of your paint sprayer and the first one is by adjusting the air cap and this is what allows you to either give a horizontal spray or a vertical spray we actually used both of these options when we were spraying at the board and batten we use the horizontal spray when we were spraying up.
And down so that we would get maximum coverage and when we were spraying sideways left and right on the top rails we switched it and used the vertical spray option the red spray width lever here allows you to choose between a wide or a narrow spray pattern since we were painting an entire room what we chose the wide option the next option to adjust is the material flow control again you’ll want to reference your manual for the material.
L settings guide because the setting of this option depends on how this cos your fluid is you can spray anything from thin stains and sealers to oil or latex paints and since we were spraying paint and primer in one we chose to do it on setting eleven and it worked perfectly next you can adjust the x boost power towel at the back which adjusts the air pressure in the paint sprayer if you choose a higher setting it will spray faster and give a smoother finish whereas a lower setting might give a more textured finish then there’s an on/off switch on both sides of the gun which is actually genius and allows you to turn at the turbine and finally there’s a lever that allows you to disconnect and spin the nozzle off and also you can just spin off the material container both of these options make it really easy to clean your paint sprayer when you’re done using yet another awesome feature that the Flexi of 5000 has is that when the case handle pops up it allows you to set the gun.
Upright so that when you have paint in your container it doesn’t tip on its side and won’t get paint in areas it’s not supposed to it’s a small thing but it’s really helpful when you’re actually using the paint sprayer okay so now that we know all of the great features we will go through all the prep work we did and how we actually use the paint sprayer so the first step anytime you’re using a paint sprayer is to tape off all of the parts of the room that you don’t want to get tape on in our case we were doing a bathroom here so we wanted to tape off all of the fixtures and the plumbing as well as the ceiling since we didn’t want to get any paint on the ceiling above the wall we were planning to wallpaper above our board-and-batten and put new flooring down.
So we didn’t worry at all about taping off those two areas there is a lot of oversprays when you’re using a paint sprayer so if you are doing work inside you do have to make sure to protect the whole area we use these drop cloths that we got from our local dollar store and some frog tape and that was all we needed to make sure everything was sealed off it probably took about an hour to properly protect and seal the entire bathroom that may sound like a long time but it saved us much more than an hour in painting now just fill your pot with paint it probably takes about a third of the gallon to make sure your settings on your paint sprayer are correct and get spraying your room occasionally.
There was a run in the paint or some minor touch-ups that we wanted to do so we did make sure to have a paintbrush on hand all the time while we were spraying the room as well it took about half an hour to spray the entire room and the paint went on in a really nice smooth thick coat so we only had to do one coat total in the whole room with about an hour of prep work and half an hour of spraying you can really see how using a paint sprayer would be beneficial in the long run especially if you paint more than one room a year like we often do there is something.
That’s so satisfying about removing a tape after you’ve painted a space and we were so happy with the beautiful lines we got from the paint sprayer here the final step is just cleaning out all the pieces of your paint sprayer we did actually already clean this one and forgot to take a video so we just quickly took it apart to show you how easy it is to take the different components apart and clean them off you do want to make sure to clean off your paint sprayer and all of the different pieces as soon as you’re done spraying because anything that dries in there can get hardened and end up gunking up the machine and making it not easy to spray with the next time.
There is also a little cleaning brush that comes with a paint sprayer that you can use to clean up all of the inside pieces the rooms that we showcased in this video are two bathrooms that we gave a makeover to at a local hair salon and I will link that video up top if you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet I hope you liked this video if you have any questions about using a painted square please leave them in the comments below and if you liked this video please give it a thumbs up and let us know in the comments thanks so much for watching bye.
How To Use an Electric Airless Paint Sprayer?
Hey Shannon here from host improvements comm I just want to show you how to paint one of these doors and the jams with an airless paint sprayer so this type of sprayer it’s electric airless it’s got the reservoir here that holds the paint draws paint up through a suction line and basically sprays it out lots of different variations of this there is an adjustment for how much paint you’re putting on every pass on the back here as well but like I said there are lots of different manufacturers of the most of them unless they specify that you don’t have to most of them like this one that I’m using I have to thin my late I’m using latex paint I need to thin it down usually at least 5% with some water just to help it spray better.
So I’ve noticed some of them now say that you don’t have to thin your latex down but this particular one I’ve got is its I don’t know three or four years old and I still thin mine down so just play around a little bit if it doesn’t spray properly then you that may be your problem so okay so basically just going to set that to the side I’ve got my door leaning here now a couple of things I do to prep the door obviously I if it needs to be cut down in height or anything you want to do that first get that all out of the way the doors that I’ve been purchasing they come where the face the two faces are primed ready to paint but the edges all four edges are not.
So what I do is I find that if I go around with a brush and prime these edges all the way around the top bottom and the sides ahead of time then it covers quite well with my two or three coats of paint if I leave them raw and just paint it that way it usually ends up taking more passes to get this to cover up the raw MDF in this case so I just give it a quick paint with a brush with the same paint or sorry primer sorry with a brush just to kind of seal.
That surface in it and it covers better with the paint so I’ve already done that on this door I’ve also installed just a block of wood a scrap of wood up here to the top of the door so that I can lean it back against a wall or whatever but yet the door doesn’t touch the wall that way I can spray one side I can pick it up carefully because it’ll be damp turn it around and lean it against that block of wood again and paint the other side so I can do basically both sides at one shot so which just speeds up the whole process okay so just make sure your door and everything is prepped over here I’ve got my Jam’s stops and everything sitting here on the sawhorses.
I’m going to spray them as well with the sprayer and the same thing just make sure everything’s prepped up ready to go and then you’re ready to paint so I like I said before I am using latex paint so I’m going to wear just a cotton mask and that’s more for just so I’m not inhaling the paint spray that’s in the air it just gets all plugged up in your nostrils so I’m just wearing that to stop that if you’re painting something other than a latex you probably want to use a respirator if you’ve got fumes something.
That’s got giving off fumes so so I’ve got that I’m going to put on my safety glasses too just in case I get some spray back or something like that off the wall so I’m just going to get my safety gear on here a lot of times I’ll just put a bandana on even around my nose and mouth but I don’t have one today so I’m going to use this mask and you can see as well we have we’re just spraying in another room you could be out in your garage or whatever but with this type of spray or you’re going to get a bit of overspray so just make sure that you know you’ve covered the floor or anything like that and whatever you’re spraying against you know you might want to hang some cardboard or plastic here as well if you’re trying to protect that I’m not worried about that.
Because we’re going to be painting this wall again later anyways so whatever sprays on there sprays on there the floor we threw some cardboard down over the carpet even though these carpets coming out just to make it easier to clean up if something spills or whatever so so I always like to do a little bit of a test spray first usually on a piece of scrap or whatever in this case I’m going to use the wall here it’s going to be hard for you to see cuz its spraying white on white but you’re just looking for your pattern make sure it’s spraying it’s not shooting out big blobs.
Or anything like that looks pretty good like I said you’re not going to probably be able to see that you’ll see it better once I go onto the door depending on your paint on your sprayer and the rate you’re moving you may take three coats to cover your door you’ll just have to play that along as you go now we’re just going to do one coat at a time let them dry in between but anyways I’m going to go ahead I’m going to stay about eight to twelve inches away from the door and I just want to move in nice constant patterns and just move my way along kind of regulate my speed you okay so that would be one face-first coated.
You’ll notice I’m trying to stay you know reach rate across I’m not turning the gun like this because as you turn this you’re getting further away and you get a little different spray pattern so I’m trying to stay consistent as I go across there I’m going to turn the door before I do the edges so that they’re not as wet so I’ll just turn it around here right now so you kind of got the handle hole and a hinge spot on the other side to hang on to so you don’t have to touch the surface of the door so I’ve got it leaning there again I’m going to run up the two edges.
And now I’ll do the face of the door you okay so that’s doing the door one thing I’ll really caution you is not try to put too much on at one time because you know you could spray it and walk away to go do something else and not realize you’ve got it on too heavy and all sudden especially on a door like this you start getting runs and if you don’t catch them in time it’s a real pain in the butt to sand them out and make it look right again so you’re better off to do an extra have to do an extra coat or something then to put it on too heavy usually these.
Doors I can cover pretty good in two coats usually but sometimes I need a third coat you know some of the edges show through or something okay so I’ll let that dry I’m going to go over and do a similar thing here on the Jamz and door stops so I’ve got them all laid out brushed off any dust that’s on there and again I’m just going to simply go along and spray them up one thing with these sprayers should mention because the way at least the way this one feeds the suction tube is rigid so it as the paint level gets down in here if you’re tilting too much it doesn’t suck properly and then it’s pertinence then shooting out big blobs so it’s important to keep.
An eye on how much paint is in your container keep it full and not to tip too much if you can help it now normally I would also have this sawhorse set up away from the wall a little bit more so now that I’ve kind of done one at one side I’d go around from the other side and spray everything again so we just kind of pushed it out of the way right now so we could shoot the video easier so kind of give yourself some room to work around your project and then you’ll be alright so this is a good way of doing your doors it’s, in my opinion, it’s a little better than brushing or rolling especially on a textured door you know and especially if you have more than one or two doors to do this is way quicker takes a little bit of time to set up but I think that’s about all.
I can really show you this I just wanted to show you basically how to do it so all your subsequent quote coats would be the same if you find that the edges are a little rough because they’ve raised from the water-based paint if you’ve used them maybe you might have to give them a little bit of sand but usually that isn’t too much an issue so like I said again I would just follow this exact same process a couple more times and the doors would be done you know different paints are going to take different amounts of time to dry but when you spray it on like this it’s a pretty thin coat and if you have a little bit of air circulation at least usually within an hour.
You’re ready to give it another shot so okay so thanks a lot for watching if you have any comments on this particular video you can just take them down below there if you actually have a question or a problem or some other question about another project you’ve got going please go to the forum and ask your question there it’s easier for me to answer from there and plus it helps other people out because they can find information that they might be looking for on there as well another thing if you like what you saw here please go down below.
